This year I had the opportunity to photograph an incredibly sweet couple and their Zion National Park elopement! I’ve known Molly since we were in middle school, and getting to be apart of this day was the biggest honor. The day she and David inquired about their elopement, I quite literally screamed out loud when I read it. The views in Zion National Park are nothing short of dream, every corner making you question whether or not it’s a green screen. They simply take your breath away – I was so excited to go back again!
So we booked a couple tickets, and we were on our way! Destination elopements take a lot of planning, research and flexibility – but even more so when you plan to shoot at sunrise. Racing against the sun in reverse is literally clockwork, and you gotta work QUICK. Our game plan for this day was a little different than most. We had a pretty incredible airbnb that was home to the cutest alpacas! Don’t worry – we got photos!! So in order to get all the best moments, light and scenery captured, Molly and David opted for a sunset first look with the alpacas!
The next morning we woke up super early to make the mildly terrifying drive to Zion National Park in the dark. The hike we planned to use wound up being closed. As such a planner when it comes to my job, this is the worst case scenario. You have no choice but to make it work and find the best option available. That’s exactly what I did. It was still dark out, but I knew the sun was going to come up really soon. I refused to miss the light, so we quickly hopped in the car and we drove around the canyon looking for a backup option. I was determined to make this Zion National Park elopement one for the books for these two.
With the help of my husband and their officiant, we made it happen. And boy, did we find the most incredible backup! After it was all said and done, I don’t quite think I’d have it any other way because it wound up being the most perfect and better than we imagined 🙂 Check out their sunrise elopement below!
